Patrick Carey, aka Jack White, had been lodging at the house of Thomas Earlam, and on 9th February attacked and killed him with a hammer and left his housekeeper Mary Moran for dead. Mary died 2 days later. Polie found Carey in another boarding house in Manchester, and when challenged he gave his name as Delaney, but he was arrested and charged with Murder. He was identified by several witnesses, and items from the lodging house were found.
He was executed on 11th May 1883 by Marwood, and was reportedly calm and steady at his execution.
